India today reported three more cases of the new COVID-19 variant of concern- Omicron, taking its tally to 36.
Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka each reported one case of the new variant.
In Karnataka, a 34-year-old man who returned from South Africa tested positive for the new variant. This was confirmed by the state’s Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar.
Taking to Twitter, the Health Minister wrote, “Third case of #Omicron has been detected in Karnataka. A 34-year-old male returning from South Africa has tested positive. He is isolated and being treated in a govt hospital. 5 primary and 15 secondary contacts have been traced and samples sent for testing@BSBommai #COVID19.”
Meanwhile, in Chandigarh a 20-year-old person who had returned from Italy, in Andhra Pradesh a man who had returned from Ireland tested positive for Omicron.
Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, have also reported cases of the new COVID-19 variant of concern, with Maharashtra having the highest number of them.
After the discovery of the Omicron in South Africa, India’s first two cases of the variant of COVID-19 were detected in Karnataka.
