Impasse continues at Manipur University with students and faculty members continuing with the relentless protest that started on May 30 demanding the ouster of Vice Chancellor A P Pandey.

The indefinite relay hunger strike launched by the Manipur University Students Union, Manipur University Teachers Association and the Manipur University Students Association entered its second day today with Chief Minister N Biren Singh failing to persuade the agitators to call off the protest during a meeting yesterday.

According to the MUTA spokesperson, the chief minister had suggested the reduction of the powers bestowed on the Vice Chancellor besides setting up of an enquiry committee to probe into the allegations levelled against the Vice Chancellor.

Throwing their weight behind the students, all the deans and 28 heads of departments of the university have resigned bringing academic activities to a standstill in the university.

Meanwhile, the state government has maintained a stark silence on the issue till now, with even the state education minister not issuing any statement on the matter.
