The police in Tinsukia district of Assam swung into action on Wednesday, launching a massive crackdown on alleged illegal timber business in the district.
Police seized two vehicles in Philobari near the town of Doomdooma, recovering sawn timber worth lakhs of rupees and arrested two drivers, who allegedly brought the timber from Arunachal Pradesh.
The vehicles involved in the illegal trade, along with three trucks were seized. However, according to sources, the main smugglers are absconding.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
