Meghalaya: Illegal coal seized in West Khasi hills

A large quantity of illegal coal has been seized by the police at Nengchigen village in the West Khasi Hills following orders from the District Magistrate. Also Read: Battleground Manipur:

A large quantity of illegal coal has been seized by the police at Nengchigen village in the West Khasi Hills following orders from the District Magistrate.

The action comes after the High Court of Meghalaya directed the state chief secretary and DGP to submit a report on illegal coal mining in the state by March 1.

Following this, a team of senior police officials also visited the area in question.
The directive by the High Court comes after media reports of rampant illegal coal mining in the West Khasi Hills.
