Allegations of rampant illegal coal mining continue to come to the fore in Meghalaya. Weeks after senior TMC leader Mukul Sangma attacked the NPP-led state government for allegedly turning a blind eye to illegal coal mining in parts of the state, social activist Agnes Kharshiing, who has been vocal against illegal mining activities, has once again raised her voice on the issue.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Kharshiing made a big attack on the political dispensation, stating that there is a deliberate silence on the issue.
Kharshiing also made mention of alleged recent instances of illegal mining activities, this time in the West Khasi Hills district of the state.
It may be mentioned that allegations of illegal coal mining are now coming in from the state’s West Khasi Hills district, with a complaint registered with the Deputy Commisioner and police to flag the issue. As per the complaint, illegal mining is being carried out in areas falling under the Shallang police station.
