Renowned academic from Assam, Professor Chandan Mahanta passed away on Tuesday at the age of 61. Chandan Mahanta breathed his last at his residence at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati in Assam.

Prof Chandan Mahanta served as the Environmental Engineer and professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT-Guwahati.

Taking to X, IIT Guwahati paid condolences and wrote, “On behalf of IIT Guwahati fraternity, we express our deepest condolence on the demise of Prof. Chandan Mahanta, Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, @IITGuwahati. May his Soul Rest in Peace”.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu also took to social media platform X to express heartfelt condolences to his family, “Deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Dr Chandan Mahanta, an eminent Environmental Engineer & Professor of Civil Engineering at @IITGuwahati. His demise leaves a huge void in Assam’s academic sector. Offering my sincere condolences to the bereaved family members & well-wishers in this hour of immense grief & personal loss. May the departed soul attain Sadgati. Om Shanti”.
