IED recovered from poll-bound Manipur, 2 arrested

As a part of the measures taken up to facilitate a smooth election process as well as VVIP visits in Poll pound Manipur, Police forces on Monday arrested two people and recovered an IED from their possession.

According to specific information about the planting of IEDs on the Imphal Kangpokpi axis to target movement of security forces, teams of Commando Imphal West arrested Maibam Dhanachandra an active cadre of RPF/PLA from Leikinthabi village.

Further, as a follow-up action, from his disclosure, another person identified as Ramai Daphya Amos was arrested from Kangpokpi.

Ramai Daphya disclosed that earlier in January a certain Hriipu Poumai of NSCN (K) from Senapati along with one unknown person came to his house and handed over the IED for safe custody to be used later on.

The same IED, one detonator and one mobile phone were recovered from his possession.

He further disclosed that the IED was planned to be used along the Imphal-Kangpokpi axis.

The arrested persons and seized articles have been handed over to Sekmai Police Station for further necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, police had to resort to firing to disperse a huge crowd of people in Kangpokpi, who had gathered to protest, demanding the release of Ramai Daphya Amos.
