The Indian Air Force has created a new record for flying non-stop in a Chinook helicopter, covering a total distance of 1,910 kilometres in less than 7 hours and 30 minutes. The record flight in a Chinook was taken on Monday between Chandigarh and Jorhat in Assam.
Taking to Twitter, the Indian Air Force stated that a Chinook undertook the longest non-stop helicopter sortie in India, flying from Chandigarh to Jorhat in Assam.
The 1910 km route was completed in 7 hrs 30 min and was made possible by the capabilities of the Chinook along with operational planning and execution by the Indian Air Force.
It needs to be mentioned here that a Chinook is a multi-role, vertical lift platform, used for transporting men and material. It also plays an important role in humanitarian and disaster relief operations.
