How to improve functioning of PWD? Worried Meghalaya DCM Tynsong asks

First Published: 15th November, 2023 15:01 IST

DCM Prestone Tynsong said that the government will soon issue an office memorandum (OM) to improve the functioning of the public works department (PWD)

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong who is also in-charge of Public Works Department (PWD) Roads has expressed deep concern about the working style of PWD, the department that is responsible for providing good roads to the people.

“How to improve the working system of PWD? Be it the construction of the road, be it the repairing and maintenance of the old roads,” the DCM said speaking to media persons in Shillong on Wednesday after a joint presentation made by the departments of finance, planning and PWD roads.

The DCM said that the moot point that was reflected in the presentation was about improving the style of functioning of PWD.

“Right now in the state of Meghalaya, we have not less than 10,000 kms of its own state’s roads excluding the national highways and the roads handed over to the NHIDCL,” a concerned DCM said.

“We discussed all these details, and we very soon will come up with the OM, which will categorise different types of roads in the state to improve on things. The meeting discussed categorising the roads in the state with the major, minor, village, and commercial roads, so that repair and maintenance work can be taken up accordingly,” the DCM said hoping to fix the problem and ensuring good roads for the people of state.

Better roads are an imperative for Meghalaya as it is also a tourist hot spot.
