Honoured and overwhelmed to become member of Academy: Rima Das

Das, the director of acclaimed and awarded titles such as "Tora’s Husband" and "Village Rockstars", is among the 487 new members invited by the Academy this year.

Award winning Assam filmmaker Rima Das, who has just received an invite from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be their member, spoke exclusively to Northeast Live from her Mumbai home about what the invitation means to her, her plans and expectations from the Academy, the organisation that awards the Oscars and her role at the Academy.

Das, the director of critically acclaimed and award winning films such as ‘Village Rockstars’, ‘Bulbul can Sing’ and ‘Tora’s Husband’ is among the 487 new members invited by the Academy this year.

On her invitation, filmmaker, Rima Das said she is honoured and overwhelmed to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

“I was in Assam when I got the invite, and a lot of things were occurring, many people were giving their best wishes. It will take me some time to fully understand everything,” she added.

“I’m excited to participate in the various programmes and eager to look into it to discover more. It will be an enriching experience for me. This kind of platform is extremely important for me,” she further added.

“Since I did not go to film school, so most of the time I observe people’s lives and bring them to the screen. Currently, I’m watching more and more films in order to get knowledge,” she stated.

On her upcoming film projects, she said, “I’m now working on Village Rockstars’ Echoing Tales, a sequel of Village Rockstar. I began work on this movie in 2020, and I’ve been working on the edit. I ought to complete it soon. I also did a film, ‘My Melbourne’. Four filmmakers Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali and Onir, we came together to do this film. The film will premiere in the month of August at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM).”
