Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma tore into those creating a controversy over denial of permission for wearing Hijab in educational institutes stating that the Holy Quran values education far more than dress codes.
Sarma said Muslim girls want education and not Hijab as is being propagated by certain sections.
Citing the Holy Quran, Sarma said the first word in the Holy book is about education and that the Prophet has always given key importance to education instead of dress code.
Sarma added that it was not compulsory for Muslim girls to wear Hijab to schools and colleges.
He also added that it was time Muslims see through the appeasement politics propagated by some.
Besides, Chief Minister Sarma also took potshots at Rahul Gandhi for questioning the integrity of the Uri surgical strike. Sarma added that Congress leaders slamming him through their comments in different mediums indicates that his message to the Congress from Uttarakhand yesterday has hit the right spot.
