Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has taken the peace push with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) a step ahead.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma called on the Union home secretary and other top officials of the MHA and briefed them about the communication by the HNLC, which is willing to join the peace process.
Besides, Conrad Sangma also briefed the MHA about the proscribed group’s decision to join the mainstream without any preconditions.

Meanwhile, discussions also focussed on taking the process forward.
Without divulging much, the Meghalaya Chief Minister termed his meeting with the MHA as very positive and said that more developments will take place in the next few days.
It may be mentioned that the outlawed outfit HNLC which has been operating in Meghalaya has expressed its willingness to come to the mainstream and its readiness to talk with the Government of India without any pre-condition and has decided to give peace a chance once again in the state.
This indeed is a crucial development after the peace process derailed following the alleged fake encounter of HNLC general secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was assigned to carry forward the talks with the Government of India.
The new peace proposal by HNLC is welcomed by Meghalaya BJP chief Ernest Mawrie and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum.
