Historic verdict, Ram temple to come at disputed Ayodhya site

In a historic judgement, the Supreme Court on Saturday paved the way for construction of a Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya and has directed the Centre to allot a 5-acre alternate plot of land to the Sunni Waqf Board.

With its unanimous verdict that runs into 1,045 pages, the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court has ended the more than seven decades long dispute.

The Supreme Court has unanimously ordered setting up of a trust by the Government that would eventually pave the way for construction of a temple in Ayodhya at the disputed site. The top Court ordered the Government to set up the trust within 3 months.

The landmark judgement was delivered by a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.

The bench also said possession of the disputed 2.77 acre land rights will be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, which is one of the three litigants in the case. The possession, however, will remain with a central government receiver.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the Supreme Court judgement on the decades long Ayodhya dispute.

Prime Minister Modi while lauding the judgement said that any dispute can be amicably solved in the spirit of due process of law. Prime Minister Modi said that today’s judgement will further increase people’s faith in the judiciary.

Home Minister Amit Shah took to the twitter soon after the verdict was pronounced. The Home Minister has welcomed the judgement and has appealed the people to maintain peace and calm.

NEDA Convenor and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to the twitter after the pronouncement of the judgement. Sarma has welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court and has appealed the people of all religions to honour the verdict and maintain peace and harmony.
