Hima Das formally appointed as DSP in Assam Police

Ace sprinter Hima Das was on Friday formally appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police in presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at a function in Guwahati.

Hima was handed the appointment letter by Sarbananda Sonowal at a ceremony attended by top functionaries of the state government as well as from the police department, including the Director-General of police.

The Asian Games silver-medallist described the moment as a childhood dream coming true.

Addressing the gathering after her induction as DSP, the 21-year-old Hima revealed that she had dreamt of becoming a police officer when she was young.

“Since my early school days, I harboured a wish to become a police officer one day and my mother also wished that.

The Asian Games silver-medallist and junior world champion said she will continue to strive for excellence in her sport alongside her job in the state police.

Hima, nicknamed Dhing Express, thanked CM Sonowal for his support. She also thanked the Assam Olympic Committee and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

Earlier, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju made it clear that Hima will “keep running for India” in the future as well.

On Wednesday, the decision to appoint Hima as DSP was taken in an Assam cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Dispur.

Along with the ace athlete, 597 Sub-Inspectors were also ceremonially appointed at the same function held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex.
