FC Goa showed their grit as they beat Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the Hero ISL match at G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Saturday. This is the second consecutive victory for Goa. The gritty encounter between the two teams saw two red cards and eight yellow cards.

Ashique Kuruniyan scored his second own goal of the season, giving Goa an early lead. Bengaluru’s Cleiton Silva pegged FCG back with a sublime free-kick. Devendra Murgaonkar then helped his team regain the lead, scoring the winner after going down to 10-men.
Jorge Ortiz started the game with quick and smart passes, and several attacks. He seemed to have got on the scoresheet in the 16th minute, but the goal was accredited to Ashique Kuruniyan who got the last touch on a rebound.

Against the run of play, just before the halftime whistle, Cleiton Silva scored the equaliser with a curling free-kick from the left flank. With 20 minutes left to play, Devendra Murgaonkar scored from close range, assisted by Ivan Gonzalez’s header as he was completely free inside the box. The Blues continued to look for a much-needed equaliser but FC Goa tightened the noose and steered the match away.

FCG is now promoted to seventh place in the table with Bengaluru Blues being relegated to the tenth spot after their fourth defeat in six matches.

Bengaluru FC is set to face ATK Mohun Bagan in the coming Thursday while FC Goa takes on Hyderabad FC next Saturday.
