10 passengers took the maiden helicopter ride from Churachandpur to Aizawl today
In another boost to connectivity in the Northeastern region of India, the first helicopter service from Manipur’s Churachandpur to Mizoram’s Aizawl began today.
The first ride of the chopper took off from Manipur’s Imphal International Airport formerly known as Tulihal International Airport, and landed at Mualpui Helipad situated in the southern part of Aizawl.
10 passengers boarded the helicopter from Churachandpur to Aizawl while five passengers boarded the return flight. The normal flight duration is about 40 minutes.
According to Manipur Government notification, the fare between Churachandpur to Aizawl is fixed at Rs. 4500 while the fare between Aizawl to Churachandpur is Rs. 6000.
The service, known as Heli Service, is part of an initiative for Northeastern states supported by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, according to a statement from the Manipur transport department.
The launch of the helicopter services between Manipur and Mizoram is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the two states and make travel and transportation between the two states easier.
