Heavy floods continue to batter Assam with seven districts in the state reeling under water.

Floods lashed Assam’s Charaideo district, where a woman identified as Santi Rajkonwari was reportedly swept away by the flood waters. The death toll has now mounted to 2 in the Charaideo district with an overall of 32 in the state of Assam.

Meanwhile, state power minister and Sonari MLA Tapan Gogoi announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of both the deceased. Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Viveka Nanda Phukon said that the administration has set up a control room to monitor the flood situation.

Apart from Charaideo, Assam’s Lakhimpur district is also reeling under severe floods including several areas of the Nowboicha region. The Singora river has submerged several important roads in the region affecting connectivity.

The National Highway No 15 has been submerged by the rising waters of the Singora. SDRF has been running rescue operations in the region, trying to rescue as many people as possible.

Meanwhile, within the same Lakhmipur district, things have turned better for the people of the Dhakuakhana region. The flood scenario has improved with a decrease in the water level of the Subansiri river.

But the people of the region are facing food crunch for their domesticated animals and livestock. The improvement in the flood scenario of the region prompted the authorities to close down the relief camp at the local school of the Majgaon village in Bordoibam.
