Heated discussion ensued on the last day of the Autumn Session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with the opposition Congress trying to corner the NPP-led MDA government on multiple issues ranging from the law and order situation to alleged cases of corruption.
While the Congress has been continually accusing the current government of not being able to maintain the law and order situation in the state, NPP MLA from Phulbari constituency Estamur Mominin reminded the opposition that the MBOSE firing incident in which at least 6 people lost their lives took place during Congress rule.
This led to a rebuttal by Congress leader Zenith Sangma, but he was not allowed to complete by NPP MLA Marcuise Marak leading to a heated argument.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Assembly was adjourned sine die today.
During the 6-day long session, a host of issues like the alleged failure of governance in the state, law and order situation, border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, Centre’s proposal on palm oil cultivation, insurgency among others were discussed and debated upon.
The session also witnessed the Opposition Congress staging a walkout after the Speaker disallowed a discussion on suspension of SPs in connection with the Cheristerfield Thangkiew encounter.
