The main project which is being implemented by the Agartala Smart City Project will cover a stretch of 1.7km along the Haora river bank. The sole objective of this project will be to develop an ecologically sustainable riverfront to prevent pollution of the Haora river. It needs to be mentioned that the Haora river is the lifeline for Agartala as it is the main source of drinking water for a major part of the city. Besides, the project is also a part of the efforts to reduce erosion of the river bank, floods and increase the prospects of tourism.
The mega project will include a 3-Km pedestrian pathway, 1 Km non-motorized cycle track, 70, 000 square meter of green space, health park, bird aviary, exhibition areas, art and craft villages, user-friendly public spaces for religious rituals at Dashami Ghat and a crematorium.
