The accused, identified as Ashim Goel, was apprehended by a team of Panbazar Police Station.

A fraudster involved in duping investors in the name of the share market and mutual fund has been arrested in Guwahati.

The accused, identified as Ashim Goel, was apprehended by a team of Panbazar Police Station.

As per reports, Goel swindled approximately Rs 8 crore from unsuspecting investors, luring them with false promises of high returns.

Multiple cases have already been registered against him at various police stations across Guwahati. Investigations are ongoing to trace the full extent of the scam.

This arrest comes in the wake of several large-scale financial frauds that have rocked Assam in recent years.

Last year, the state witnessed a massive online trading scam, in which mastermind Dipankar Barman, behind the multi-crore DB Stocks fraud, was arrested in Goa after months on the run.

Additionally, another major scam involving social media influencer Sumi Borah, her husband Tarkik Borah, Bishal Phukan, Swapnil Das and 4 others led to the duping of investors out of crores.

In November last year, 3 of the 8 accused—Bishal Phukan, Tarkik Borah, and Swapnil Das were granted bail after the CBI failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated time. However, Sumi Borah remains in jail as she has yet to secure bail in two other cases filed by the Assam Police.

Authorities continue to investigate these fraudulent schemes, urging citizens to be cautious while investing in online trading platforms.
