Guwahati: Man Accused of Attempting to Slit the Throat of a Woman, Injured in Police Firing

In a shocking incident, a man accused of attempting to murder a woman in Guwahati’s Bhetapara area was injured in police firing after he tried to escape custody on Friday night.

The accused, identified as Azul Haq, hailing from Dhubri district, allegedly slashed the throat of Sonali Das, a resident of Kailash Nagar, in a horrifying attack on Golden Path in Bhetapara. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, leaving the woman critically injured.

The victim was immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Sonali Das continues to fight for her life, with her condition remaining critical.

Azul Haq was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident. However, while being transported from the hospital, he requested to relieve himself. Seizing the opportunity, Haq pushed a police officer and attempted to flee. The police issued repeated warnings for him to stop, but when he refused to comply, they were forced to open fire.
