In a significant development, Ramen Modahi, the kingpin involved in the Guwahati land-grabbing scam, was shot while he tried to flee. The incident happened last night in Guwahati. Police shot him in his right leg.
Modahi, accused for his involvement in the land-grabbing racket in Lalung Gaon, Lakhra, is currently admitted to GMCH under police guard.
The incident unfolded during a joint operation by the Crime Branch and Basistha police station, as they conducted searches led by apprehended individuals in pursuit of other accused persons.
Earlier, Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah revealed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was briefed about the land grab matter, prompting a collaborative investigation by the district revenue administration and the police.
Highlighting the gang of land mafias, Barah said, “The gang of land grabbers manipulates land titles, transferring ownership without the knowledge of the original landowner.”
It is to be mentioned that, as part of the ongoing probe, three individuals were arrested on November 24. The arrested were a computer operator from the Revenue Circle Office in Dispur, a junior assistant from the Sub Registrar Office in Guwahati, a land broker, and an advocate.
