Guwahati Ends Parking Fees for Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers from June 1

GMC announced this move on May 9, calling it a step towards easing the daily financial burden on commuters and small-scale workers.

From June 1, two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders in Guwahati will no longer have to pay parking fees in any area regulated by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). GMC announced this move on May 9, calling it a step towards easing the daily financial burden on commuters and small-scale workers.

The GMC has strictly prohibited contractors and private collectors from charging parking fees for these vehicles, warning of strict action against violators. The decision is expected to benefit a wide range of people, including college students, gig workers, delivery agents, and office-goers who rely on scooters, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws for daily commutes.

The GMC also announced a major relief for women vendors at the Lachit Commercial Bazaar (LCB) Market, particularly those from tribal and indigenous communities. These vendors, who sell vegetables, homemade snacks, clothes, and local produce, will no longer have to pay any form of tax or fee for setting up their stalls.

GMC further noted that many of these women, often from nearby villages, had faced pressure from middlemen and unauthorised fee collectors. The move aims to protect their livelihoods and promote local entrepreneurship.
