Guwahati Covid woes rise as new hotspots emerge; active containment zones near 200-mark

Guwahati is staring at a possible re-imposition of lockdown as the threat of community transmission looms large in the city, with over 70 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Among the newly infected, most positive cases are employees at different shops in Fancy Bazaar area, while some came in direct contact with the infected. The fresh cases in the capital city include residents from Pandu, Dhirenpara, Fancy Bazar and Fatasil Ambari.

The list of containment zones in Guwahati is getting longer with every passing day. With the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, the active containment zones is nearing the 200-mark.

Notably, over 400 cases have been reported from Kamrup-Metro district so far. Several zones in the city has been identified as Covid hotspot.

Panic has gripped the locals of Fatasil Ambari after an 11-year-old girl was found positive for COVID-19 at Ramkrishna Path in the area. A total of 10 persons has been tested positive in the area so far.

Three police officials – two constables and a home guard of the Panbazar police station have also tested positive for coronavirus. The cases were confirmed after the samples of all personnels in the Police Station were sent for COVID-19 testing.

Following the detection of the 3 personnel’s, several police quarters of the Panbazar Police Station have been turned into containment zones and many top officials were sent to quarantine.

Meanwhile, a top official of the North East Frontier Railway have also tested positive for COVID-19 in Maligaon. The infected person has been identified as Aneet Daulat, who is the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) at NF Railway.

His son Uday Daulat was also found positive for the deadly virus. Both patients are being treated at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
