Got calls from NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma and HM Shah over appointment of interlocutor: TIPRA Motha chief

By Lipika Roy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called up Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance or TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Debbarma late last night to discuss the appointment of an interlocutor to start the talks concerning the TIPRA Motha’s demand seeking ‘constitutional solution’ and assured a few things, Pradyot Debbarma told Northeast Live.

“A commitment is very important. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday ( March 23) called me up and told me that an interlocutor for the talks concerning the TIPRA Motha’s demand seeking a ‘constitutional solution’ will be appointed by March 27. Personally, he had given me that commitment. When there were no such announcements made yesterday, I took an action and hours after I received calls from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NEDA Convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma late last night wherein they have assured me… and I believe that”, Pradyot Debbarma told Northeast Live.

“However, I need it in written format because I am answerable to my people. Until and unless it is in print, nobody will believe as the deadline has expired, so till the time it is not given in print, I can not say anything,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that yesterday, Pradyot Debbarma has
threatened Centre to fast unto death if the centre (Home Ministry) does not announce the name of the interlocutor by today.

In his message to the Tiprasa people of the state, Pradyot Debbarma said, ” My dear Tiprasa people you have given much love and respect to me. I can not ditch you. If it requires me to go on a hunger strike from tomorrow till I breathe my last to make the Government of India listen to us and address our concerns I will do it.”

The TIPRA Motha chief further said that he loves Tiprasa people too and that he is ready to die for them.

” I love you all too. I am waiting. If by tomorrow no conclusion comes, I will fast unto death but will give you all something before dying,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that earlier in the week, Pradyot Debbarma took to Twitter and informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a telephonic conversation with him wherein he assured to announce an interlocutor for the talks on March 27.
