In a recent warning, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has raised the alarm about Google Chrome, the popular web browser used by millions. They’ve discovered “multiple vulnerabilities” that could put your data and computer at risk.
What is the threat?
CERT-In says these vulnerabilities could allow cyber attackers to do some very harmful things. They might run harmful code, get past security measures, or even crash your system. This is a serious threat to your online safety.
Where do the dangers come from?
The dangers come from different places in Google Chrome. There are problems with how it handles images, links, and downloads. Attackers could use these problems to trick you into visiting dangerous websites.
The list of vulnerabilities
These vulnerabilities have official names called CVE identifiers. One of them, CVE-2023-4863, is already being used by hackers.
Which are the Chrome versions at risk?
The vulnerable versions of Google Chrome are those released before certain numbers. The versions that need updating are:
Google Chrome (Extended Stable Channel) versions earlier than 116.0.5845.188 (for Mac and Linux)
Google Chrome (Extended Stable Channel) versions earlier than 116.0.5845.187 (for Windows)
Google Chrome for Desktop versions earlier than 117.0.5938.62 (for Mac and Linux)
Google Chrome for Desktop versions earlier than 117.0.5938.62/.63 (for Windows)

CERT-In advises you to act quickly to keep your computer and data safe. The solution is straightforward: update your Google Chrome browser.
How to Update Google Chrome?
Here’s how to update Google Chrome, step by step:
Open Google Chrome on your computer.
In the top right corner, click on the three dots.
From the menu that appears, choose ‘Help.’
In the ‘Help’ section, select ‘About Google Chrome.’
Google Chrome will automatically check for updates. If updates are available, it will download and install them.
If prompted, restart Google Chrome to complete the process.
