Eastern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita on Thursday urged upon ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah to return to Assam and to return to Assam and enjoy the fruits of peace and development”.
“They [ULFA (I)] have some limited capability as the majority of them are across. They are just involved in some sporadic grenade throwing activity, extortion and kidnappings. I would like to urge Paresh Baruah and all those people to come back to Assam and enjoy the fruits of peace and development and work for the prosperity of the society,” the outgoing Eastern Army Commander said during a media interaction at Fort William in Kolkata.
Lt Gen Kalita said that in major parts of Assam the situation has become normal and there are lot of developmental activities taking place in the state. From infrastructure development to investments coming in, Assam has witnessed a lot of development in the last few years.
Furthermore, the Eastern Army Commander said that due to the fall in incidents of violence, the Armed Forces Special Power Act or AFSPA has been revoked from most districts except for four districts in upper Assam.
