GHADC polls: Conrad Sangma meets victorious Independent candidates

After finishing the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) polls in the second place with 11 seats, NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Independent candidates Aktar Ali and Arbinstone B Marak who emerged victorious on Thursday.
While Aktar Ali had emerged victorious from the Zikzak seat on an Independent ticket, in a massive setback for the NPP, Arbinstone B Marak won the Rochonpara seat with an independent ticket defeating NPP candidate and incumbent CEM Dipul Marak.
Congress has emerged as the single largest party in the GHADC winning 12 of the 29 seats.
The NPP finished a close second with 11 seats, while the BJP won 2 seats. Apart from this the GNC has won 1 seat. Three remaining seats were secured by independent candidates.
The seats that have been won by the Congress are Kharkutta, Rongrong, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Samandagre, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Betasing, Amongpara, Batabari and Balachanda.
NPP secured wins in Nogorpara, Siju, Bolsong, Darugre, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang.
The BJP grabbed prestigious seats in Barengapara and Tura, while the GNC won Rongrikimgre.
BJP’s Pramod Koch defeated the rival candidates in the Barengapara seat, while the party’s Bernard Marak registered victory in the Tura seat.
Independent candidate Arbinestone Marak was declared victorious from the Rochonpara seat.
The GHADC election was held on April 12 while the votes were counted yesterday.
