Gambegre By-Polls Tomorrow: 6 Candidates in the Fray, 32,254 Voters Set to Cast Their Ballot

Polling will begin at 7:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM across more than 51 polling booths spread across the constituency.

The Gambegre assembly constituency in Meghalaya will go to bypolls tomorrow alongside by-polls for 5 assembly seats in Assam, 25 other assembly seats in various states and Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala and first phase of Assembly polls in Jharkhand.

The Gambegre seat is expected to witness a fierce contest between Mehtab Chandee from the National People’s Party (NPP), the wife of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma; Bernard Marak, State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); Congress candidate Jingjang M. Marak; and Trinamool Congress candidate Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the wife of three-time Rangsakona MLA Zenith Sangma, and the only female Member of the District Council (MDC) from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). Sadhiarani is the sister-in-law of former Meghalaya CM and TMC leader Mukul Sangma.

There are two independent candidates – Sengkrabirth M Marak and Jerry A Sangma who are also in the race.

Polling will begin at 7:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM across more than 51 polling booths spread across the constituency. Around 31 are identified as critical polling stations. There are no vulnerable polling stations under the constituency.

Around 500 polling personnel have been deployed on poll duty.

The constituency has a total of 32,254 voters including 16,331 males and 15,923 females, 3 service voters, 64 senior citizens, 100 persons with disabilities (PwDs).

The counting of votes will take place on November 23.

This assembly seat fell vacant after it’s sitting MLA, Congress’ Saleng Sangma won the Lok Sabha poll and became the MP from Tura. Saleng Sangma has won this seat thrice in 2013 as an Independent candidate and in 2018 and 2023 as a Congress candidate.
