Last night, the Itanagar Capital Region district administration which is handling the detention case, had decided to release 10 of the remaining 26 detainees
In a fresh twist, only 3 individuals detained under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (APUAPA) are likely to walk free. Last night, the Itanagar Capital Region district administration which is handling the detention case, had decided to release 10 of the remaining 26 detainees including activist Sol Dodum, Kapi Champa, Tana Tamar, and Nabam Sanjay.
DC Talo Potom had called the 10 detainees to his office last night but only 8 of them turned up.
After the talks and after making Sol Dodum, Kapi Champa, Tana Tamar, and Nabam Sanjay sign a bond stating that they would not get involved in any undemocratic and unlawful activities, the authorities decided to release only 3 detainees. It is clear that Sol Dodum has not been released but there is still no clarity on who all have been released.
The four above-mentioned individuals were seen speaking to the Itanagar DC last night, which was aired live on his social media platform.
It is said that the Itanagar DC was not satisfied with the response of Sol Dodum and 5 others following which they were put under detention again.
It is believed that due to the conditions laid down for the release, talks did not make any headway between the district administration and the detainees.
On May 29, the first batch of 18 of the 44 individuals who were detained by the Itanagar district administration under the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (APUAPA) were released. A total of 44 persons including Dodum were arrested on May 8-9 to prevent any law and order situation during the 72-hour bandh called by a number of individual groups from May 10-12.
