Fresh tension erupted in Pekucherra, Panisagar, North Tripura on Tuesday morning after a temple in the area was found damaged and in retaliation people attacked an under-construction building within a mosque complex.
Internet has been suspended till tomorrow and Section 144 have been imposed prohibiting gatherings of more than 5 people and rallies.
North Tripura Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty has been transferred to the headquarters and Dhalai Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai has been given additional charge of the district.
This incident comes within days of the deadly clash in Kadamtala, North Tripura, on October 7, which left one person dead and 17 injured.
The unrest is believed to have started late Monday night when miscreants vandalized the temple, sparking local outrage. In retaliation, another place of worship was ransacked. The violence also spread to Unakoti district, where concerned residents gathered at the Irani police station in Kailashahar, demanding protection.
