A temporary lull in Manipur was shattered as fresh firing was reported from Koutruk village, within 48 hours of peace talks being held with MLAs in New Delhi and within hours of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visiting Koutruk to probe the drone bombing incident.

The attack comes as the state was gearing up for the Mera Hou Chongba festival, an event celebrated for fostering unity between the Hill and Valley communities.

According to reports, armed assailants launched the attack from the hills of Kangpokpi, targeting villagers in Lower Koutruk.

The attack began post-midnight, triggering heavy crossfire between two groups. Tensions ran high in the area until large numbers of security forces arrived to control the situation and restore order.

As the state continues to grapple with unrest, the situation at Koutruk remains tense but under control, with security forces closely monitoring the area.
