The crucial meeting of the high-level committee set up to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is underway in Guwahati. This is for the fourth time that the high level committee is meeting after the panel was set up in July.
It may be mentioned that the committee has made considerable progress on its mandate and currently working out the definition of who is an Assamese.
The other important issue that the HLC has been dwelling upon is regarding reservation of seats in Parliament, local bodies and employment generation.
The committee is also examining suggestions that have pored in from stakeholders and different sections of the society regarding language and other issues.
