In a significant milestone for Sikkim’s healthcare workforce, four women nurses from the state have arrived in Germany to begin their careers as registered nurses. According to the latest update from the Skill Development Department, the nurses Prerna Rai, Susmita Basnett, Sanjana Pradhan, and Shreya Rai, reached Germany on January 28.

They are employed at St. Anna Stift Nursing Home, run by the Catholic Church under the Parish of St. Martinus in Hagen City, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

This achievement is part of the Sikkim INSPIRES Program, through which 13 women nurses from Sikkim have undergone German language training in Kerala and secured placements in Germany’s healthcare sector. The remaining nurses will travel to Germany in batches, with all expected to reach their workplaces by the end of March 2025.

Chief Minister PS Golay recently felicitated these nurses during the Maghey Sankranti Mela at Jorethang on January 14, recognising their dedication and the state government’s efforts in skill development.

The German language training was a collaborative effort involving the Skill Development Department, Commerce & Industries Department, and Planning & Development Department. This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to empowering women, creating international career opportunities, and showcasing Sikkim’s skilled workforce on a global platform.
