Former All Assam Students Union (AASU) leader, Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Thursday took charge as the president of the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), during the two-day political convention of AJP in the State’s Sivasagar district.

AJP, floated by the AASU and Asom Jatiyatabadi Juba Chatra Parishad in September last year, will contest next year’s Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing the public, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “Today a new regionalism has taken shape.”
“We will work towards creating a state where people of all communities can co-exist peacefully,” he said.
On the other hand, former tourism minister Jagadish Bhuyan also took charge as general secretary of the AJP, while Patacharkuchi MLA Kabindra Deka was announced the party’s new executive president.
