Fmr CJI Ranjan Gogoi to be conferred Assam Baibhav; Elvis, Hima to be awarded Assam Saurav

Assam Vaibhav, Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav awards are the highest civilian awards given by the Assam Government to people for their contribution to the society in their respective fields
Former Chief Justice of India and Rajya Sabha MP, Ranjan Gogoi, would be conferred Assam Baibhav, the highest civilian award of Assam. Ace Assam swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika and Indian sprinter from Assam, Hima Das would be honoured with the Assam Saurav award, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today announcing the names of the eminent personalities selected for the civilian awards.
Archaeologist Dr Kishan Chand Nauriyal and Tiwa dance exponent Nadiram Deuri too would be honoured with Assam Saurav. Seventeen eminent personalities would be conferred the Assam Gaurav Award.
The Chief Minister, addressing a press conference in Dispur said, “This year on February 10 we will be conferring these civilian awards. The Governor will be giving away these awards and the Vice-President of the country will be present at the occasion as the Chief Guest.”
“This year the Assam Baibhav award will be conferred to Ranjan Gogoi. We always select 3 to 4 people for the Assam Saurav award, the names have already been released to the press and the Assam Gaurav award will be presented to 17 people,” he added.
The awards carry the following:
- Assam Bhaibhav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 5 lakh.
- Assam Saurav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 4 lakh.
- Assam Gourav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 3 lakh.
The awardees can also access following facilities:
• Free Medical Treatment in Government hospitals and stay in paying cabins, wherever available.
• They will be provided free accommodation in State Government Circuit Houses, Guest Houses and Assam Bhawans.
• They will be regular invitees for all the official functions as distinguished guests.
• The Government of Assam will provide up to Rs. 2 lakh for medical expenses towards their treatment of critical diseases.
• Over and above the provision for award money and certain facilities to recipients, free travel will also be permitted to awardees in ASTC buses, provided they give a 24 hour prior information of the proposed journey.
