Flop Show? Salman Khan Starrer Sikandar’s Box Office Collection on Day 4 Tanks to Just Rs 9.75 Crore

Sikandar’s Box Office Collection: Sikandar opened with a promising start, earning Rs 26 crore on its first day.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s much-anticipated Eid release, Sikandar, has found itself in trouble at the box office despite marking his comeback after a one-year break. Released on March 30, the film was expected to make a massive impact, considering the star’s previous track record with Eid releases. However, it has failed to meet expectations, with collections taking a significant hit after the Eid holiday.
Sikandar opened with a promising start, earning Rs 26 crore on its first day. On Eid, the film saw a boost, raking in Rs 29 crore. However, the collections dropped to Rs 19.5 crore on April 1 (Tuesday). The most significant setback came on Wednesday (April 2), when the film witnessed a drastic 50% decline, earning just Rs 9.75 crore, according to Sacnilk. This brought the film’s total domestic box office earnings to Rs 84.25 crore (net) in four days.
The film’s underwhelming performance is concerning, given its staggering budget of Rs 200 crore. Despite surpassing Salman Khan’s last Eid release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which made Rs 15 crore on its opening day, Sikandar could not beat the opening numbers of Tiger Zinda Hai, which earned Rs 33 crore on Day 1.
The poor performance of Sikandar has reignited the debate around the dominance of South Indian films over Bollywood releases. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 set an impressive benchmark by earning Rs 85 crore (net) on its fourth day in Hindi markets, reflecting the growing popularity of South Indian cinema among Hindi-speaking audiences. In comparison, Sikandar’s performance has been lacklustre, adding to the ongoing conversation about the “dying” state of Bollywood.
Salman Khan has had a long-standing tradition of delivering blockbusters on Eid. From Bajrangi Bhaijaan to Sultan and Ek Tha Tiger, the actor’s Eid releases have often been synonymous with massive box office success. However, the recent trend has been less promising. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan failed to impress audiences, and Sikandar seems to be facing a similar fate.
Sikandar marked several firsts for Salman Khan. It was his maiden collaboration with actress Rashmika Mandanna and director AR Murugadoss, known for the blockbuster Ghajini (2008) with Aamir Khan. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film was expected to be a commercial entertainer, but it struggled to live up to the hype.
The underperformance of Sikandar underscores the evolving preferences of audiences, who are increasingly favouring content-rich films over star-driven projects. Bollywood needs to reassess its formula and take inspiration from the success of South Indian cinema, which has effectively blended strong narratives with mass appeal.
While Salman Khan’s Eid releases have historically been sure-shot hits, Sikandar highlights that star power alone may no longer guarantee box-office success. As the South vs Hindi cinema debate continues, Bollywood must adapt to changing audience expectations to reclaim its lost glory.
