Flood and erosions hit Assam’s Dibrugarh town: Water Resources minister Pijush Hazarika reviews situation

A heavy down pour in the early morning hours in Dibrugarh resulted in flooding in many areas of the town.

Assam Minister of Water Resources, Pijush Hazarika visited several erosion affected areas of Dibrugarh and also inspected the Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) dyke and Aithan dyke following which he preceded to Tingkhong Matikata by a boat.

After inspecting the problem of soil erosion caused by the Brahmaputra River, Hazarika said that the people of Dibrugarh can expect water woes to decrease significantly in one year’s time.

“We have allotted Rs 329 crores for the region to ensure the protection of 30km length of banks. The tender has been awarded and work has begun, but with the rise in water level, the work has been paused”, he stated.

“Temporary work is going on. There is no shortage of funds and it is a big achievement. I want to tell the people of Dibrugarh that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is very concerned about you and wants the best for you. My next visit will be to oversee the completion of this work”, the Water Resources minister added.

Meanwhile, a heavy downpour in the early morning hours resulted in flooding in many areas of Dibrugarh.

A huge tree got uprooted due to the heavy rains in the Chowkidinghee area, due to which the Convoy Road got blocked for some time. A car parked on the roadside was damaged as the tree fell on the car.
People in Dibrugarh are having a difficult time as several roads got flooded due to the rains.
