The release of excessive water of the Doyang hydro power project in Nagaland by NEEPCO has caused heavy flash floods in neighbouring Assam’s Golaghat district.
Several villages in Merapani and Sarupathar regions of Golaghat are facing flash flood scenario as a result.
After a gap of five days, the SDRF began search and rescue operations in the region. Most people have taken shelter at the relief camp set up at the local school of Sitmari Hirimbapur, where they are facing acute shortage of basic amenities.
And most of the brunt is being bore by the region of Sarupathar. Several villages in Sarupathar are facing the floods with scores of people forced to take shelter in relief camps.
The CRPF along with some groups distributed food items among the flood affected people of the region.
