Five Illegal Immigrants Along with Child Arrested at Agartala Railway Station

In a successful operation, security forces apprehended five suspected infiltrators, along with a child, at Agartala Railway Station, as they attempted to use Tripura as a transit route to enter other parts of India.

A senior official from the Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, marking another success in curbing illegal border crossings from Bangladesh.

Inspector Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the GRP at Agartala Railway Station, shared that based on specific intelligence inputs, the GRP, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Border Security Force (BSF), conducted a coordinated operation on Monday.

Security personnel were strategically deployed at entry and exit points throughout the station. The team identified and detained five individuals, whose movements raised suspicion.

During initial questioning, the detainees claimed to be Indian nationals. However, upon further interrogation, they admitted to being foreign nationals—three of them identified as Rohingyas and two as Bangladeshi citizens.

It was revealed that the group had crossed the international border the previous night.

“A case has been registered against the five under the BNS Act, Foreigners Act, and IPP Act at the Agartala GRP station. They are being presented in court today,” Inspector Das stated.

Authorities also recovered several items from the infiltrators, including Bangladeshi currency, mobile phones, and documents.

Inspector Das noted that an active search is underway to track down Indian operatives who facilitated their illegal entry.

“Three Indian touts involved in human trafficking were recently arrested and remain in police custody for interrogation,” he added.

The GRP official highlighted the growing challenge of infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura, with an alarming number of 250 individuals being arrested in the past two months.

Infiltrators see Tripura as a corridor, posing a serious national security threat and so NIA had recently taken the initiative aimed at uprooting the issue by arresting touts by launching raids across the nation after identifying the network engaged with human trafficking from across the border.

Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh, with over 97% of the boundary fenced. However, several weak spots in the fencing remain, which are often exploited by human traffickers. The central government is actively working to strengthen these vulnerable sections to prevent further illegal crossings.
