Football in Sikkim is now marred by controversy as two entities are now seemingly involved in a sort of face-off over the hosting of the Sikkim Premier League. While the Sikkim Premier League 2024-25 is going to kick-off from tomorrow at the Paljor Stadium, to be hosted by the Sikkim Football Association, a massive row has erupted over the fact that a similar event with the same nomenclature had begun since 2023 under the Football Development (P) Ltd. Concerned over the use of the brand “Sikkim Premier League” by the Sikkim Football Association, the Football Development Pvt Ltd has sought intervention of the Sikkim Government. The FDPL has already written a letter to Sikkim Sports Minister Raju Basnet in this regard.
