Ex Arunachal MLA Yumsen Matey’s murder case to be transferred to NIA

The Arunachal Pradesh government on Thursday decided to transfer the Yumsen Matey murder case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The state government has decided to transfer the case following a request from the police department.
The Police has proposed to transfer the case No. Lazu PS FIR No. 10/2023 under the section of 302/120B/506/34 IPC R/w Sec 25 (1B) (a) and Sec 27 of Arms Act 1959 and Sec 10/13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 pertaining to death of late Yumsen Matey, ex-MLA, 56th Khonsa West Constituency of Tirap District, Arunachal Pradesh on 16/12/2023 to the National Investigation Agency for detailed and comprehensive investigation, sources said.

In a bid to ensure a meticulous and thorough investigation, the State Government decided to transfer the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Arunachal Home Department has already forwarded the case to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, through a letter dated December 21, 2023, seeking the necessary directions for the NIA’s intervention, the sources said.

The former Khonsa West MLA Yumsen Matey was shot dead by unknown assailants at Raho village under Lazu circle of Tirap district, near the Indo-Myanmar border, on December 16.

Late Matey, a politician from Lazu village in Tirap district and the first graduate from the Ollo community, served as a Member of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Khonsa West seat.

Matey debuted as an MLA on a Congress ticket in 2009. After losing the 2014 election, he joined the BJP in 2015.
