Elvis Ali Hazarika becomes the first Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway Of India, Mumbai, Arabian Sea. 

This Gateway of India channel from Dharamtul Jetty is India’s second most complex channel.

The Arabian Sea part is around 38 kilometres long, and it took Elvis Ali Hazarika and his relay partner Rimo Saha 10 hours to complete the course.

Assam Sports Minister Bimal Borah took to Twitter to congratulate Hazarika for his achievement.

“Heartiest congratulations to eminent swimmer Shri Elvis Ali Hazarika for becoming the 1st Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway of India in an ardous swim taking 10 hours to complete. Assam immensely proud of you and your achievement. Keep shining,” the Minister wrote on Twitter.

The swim started at 1 am today.

Elvis previously stated that the event was part of his preparation for the proposed North Channel Swimming, which he plans to undertake next year.

Elvis Ali Hazarika is an International swimmer from Assam. He is one of the country’s most successful players, having accomplished a great deal in his playing career.

Elvis Ali Hazarika, who sought to set a new record by flying 39 kilometres across the ocean, had previously sailed through the English Channel in the Catalina Cell at 29 kilometres.

Earlier, Hazarika had said that the event was part of his preparation for the proposed North Channel Swimming which he will attempt next year.
