Sleuths of the CBI carried out a raid at the house of Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh late on Friday evening in connection to her alleged involvement in the Education Scam, which dates back to 2008-09 when she was serving as the Meghalaya Education Minister.

Apart from Lyngdoh’s residence, the CBI also carried out raids at four other locations, including the office of Directorate of School Education and Literacy. Meanwhile, Lyngdoh refused to make any comment on the matter.

The CBI had booked Ampareen Lyngdoh, who was the education minister during 2008-09 at the time of the scam for allegedly manipulating score sheets in the recruitment of teachers in 2008-09.

Following the orders of the Meghalaya High Court, the CBI had registered an FIR against Lyngdoh under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including those of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and breach of trust.

Along with Ampareen, PS Thangkhiew, a 1984-batch IAS officer, who was the then principal secretary of education has also been booked by the CBI in connection to the case.

It is being alleged that Ampareen instructed JD Sangma, who was the then director of elementary and mass education to tamper and forge the score sheets.
