ECI looks to link Tripura’s 27 lakh voter id cards with Aadhar

The Election Commission of India has taken an initiative to link electoral photo identity cards or EPICs of 27 lakh voters of Tripura with their AADHAR cards.

For this, a two-month special drive shall be launched across the state from coming August 1.

Addressing a press conference in the secretariat today, Tripura’s Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte announced that as per the amendment of the Representation of the People Act 1950 and 1951 in the Parliament, the ECI has taken an initiative of linking AADHAR with EPIC of all voters in Tripura.

For this, across the state, Booth Level Officers shall visit every household to collect the AADHAR number for updating the data.

However, he assured that the AADHAR number shall not be made public and will not be there in the voter list, voter slip, or in any public domain.

Gitte claimed that 99 percent database of voters list in Tripura is clean and with the new initiative it shall further improve.

The CEO also announced henceforth that the electoral roll shall be updated every quarter or four times a year and youngsters can enroll their name in the voter list in advance after attaining 17 plus years old.
