The Joint NGO coordination committee in Mizoram has claimed a major victory stating that the Election Commission of India has reportedly agreed to replace Chief Electoral Officer SB Shashank who was under scanner following the transfer of former state principal secretary L Chuauanga.
Following a meeting with a visiting high level ECI delegation, chairman of the joint NGOs committee Vanlalruata claimed that the ECI team led by secretary SB Joshi has agreed to replace Shashank as the CEO.
However, the Election Commission is yet to give a confirmation of any such move.
An ECI team led by secretary SB Joshi and Jharkhand CEO Lalbiaktluanga Khiange landed in Aizawl yesterday to conduct further discussions on the joint resolution submitted by the NGO coordination committee in Mizoram demanding the ouster of Shashank.
The ECI team held a meeting with members of the joint NGO coordination committee in Aizawl last evening and according to the NGOs the ECI team accepted the resolution submitted by them.
It was also informed that the Bru refugees will cast their votes in their respective polling station only, but also clearly stated that the Brus can only cast their votes in the state of Mizoram.
Talks were also held on the situation in Kolasib district and both sides agreed that special care needs to be taken to calm the heated atmosphere there.
