West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency District Election Officer Sandeep Mahatme has been removed from his position with immediate affect and was replaced by IAS Officer Vikash Singh who took charge on

West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency District Election Officer Sandeep Mahatme has been removed from his position with immediate affect and was replaced by IAS Officer Vikash Singh who took charge on Thursday, the same day the replacement order was issued by the Election Commission of India to the CEO of Tripura.

Amid reports of the Election Commission contemplating repolls in a number of polling stations in Tripura West, the commission clearly means business at this point in time, replacing the DEO to ensure better poll preparedness ahead of the repolls.

This development is a clear indication of the fact that repolls in a number of constituencies in Tripura West will be held

The Ministry of Home affairs had shot off a letter to the govt of Tripura to ensure deployment of adequate security cover during the conduct of the repolls.

Meanwhile, the Left Front in Tripura has welcomed the move of the Election Commission to replace the West Tripura District Election Officer.

On the other hand, the Congress has echoed similar reactions on the development. The party said that the Election Commission’s decision to remove Sandeep Mahatme as the DEO of West Tripura proves that large-scale anomalies took place during polls in the constituency on April 11.
