With the Meghalaya police yet to make any further breakthrough in the brutal attack on vocal social activist Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma in East Jaintia Hills, the Assembly Committee on Women empowerment has decided to summon the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills in connection with the attack.
Talking to media persons after a meeting of the committee in Shillong today, chairperson of the committee and Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh said the panel has asked for a status report on the incident.
The East Jaintia Hills DC and SP have been asked to appear before the committee on November 26 and submit a report on the incident.
It may be mentioned that the Committee of Empowerment of Women examines measures taken by the government to secure equality, status and dignity for women in all matters.

Vocal social activist Agnes Kharshiing and her fellow CSWO colleague Amita Sangma were brutally attacked by a group of 30-40 miscreants when they were on their way back to Shillong from Lad Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills.
It is being suspected that Kharshiing has been attacked at the behest of the coal mafia in the state.
Police had swung into action after the incident arresting two persons. But there has been no further breakthrough in the case since then.
