CPIM delegation led by former CM Manik Sarkar visited Durganagar in West Tripura, nearly a month after communal violence erupted.

Nearly a month after communal violence erupted in Durganagar under the Ranirbazar police station in West Tripura district, a delegation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), led by former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, who visited the affected area today, said the violence was pre-planned and accused the police of being mute spectators.

Addressing the media after the visit, Sarkar said the violence was “organized, preplanned, and aimed at creating religious polarization for political mileage.” He further highlighted that the scale of the attacks and the slow response from the authorities indicated a deliberate effort to inflame communal tensions.

Sarkar alleged that many of the attackers came from outside the area and were armed with sharp weapons. He said that the violence unfolded in the presence of police officers, who, instead of taking action, advised victims to flee into nearby forests to avoid confrontation.

In addition to condemning the police’s actions, Sarkar expressed frustration over the delay in allowing his team to visit the site. He revealed that their initial attempt to reach the area was blocked by police, further raising questions about the handling of the incident by the local administration.

The CPIM leader called for accountability and demanded an impartial investigation into the attacks, stressing the need for peace and harmony in the region.

The team interacted with families affected by the unrest.
