DU Ragging Case: 6 arrested so far, Main Accused Rahul Chetry still at large

Reported by Ripunjoy Das

The police arrested six students so far for their alleged involvement in the ragging case at Dibrugarh University of November 26. However, the main accused Rahul Chetry continues to be at large.
Meanwhile, the health condition of victim Anand Sharma is improving gradually.

Rahul Chetry is allegedly the main instigator of the entire ragging incident that took place on November 26 nights at the University’s Padmanath Gohain Baruah Hostel.

One of the accused student Kalyan Dutta, who had likened himself with Lord Ram and said, “As Bhagawan Ramchandra went on exile (van vas) as per his father’ s wishes I too am not living in the comforts of a home with family. This is like van vas for me,” in a Facebook live, is also in police custody.

The high level 5-member committee set up by the University to look into any lapses and the implementation of anti-ragging rules in the University has sought more time to submit its report.

The University VC, Registrar, 3 wardens of PNGB Hostel and 11 accused students appeared before the committee in the past few days.

JB Law College, Guwahati has expelled Rahul Chetry. He was pursuing a Law degree course in the college.
